WhatsApp AI agent — smart marketing and customer replies on your number

WhatsApp marketing is not a contact-list blast. It starts when a customer asks to hear from you and continues as a conversation. The steps below cover the profile, opt-in, broadcast and follow-up work that makes that possible.

Step 1: Set up the account

Your foundation is a proper WhatsApp Business account (free).

  1. Download WhatsApp Business from the App Store or Google Play
  2. Register with your business number
  3. Go to Settings → Business tools → Business profile
  4. Fill in everything: business name, category, description, address, hours, website, and email
  5. Add a logo as your profile photo

A complete profile lets customers check your hours, location and business details before they message.

Step 2: Build a catalog if you sell products

WhatsApp Business lets you showcase products right inside the app.

  1. Business tools → Catalog
  2. Tap Add item
  3. Add photos, name, price, description, and a link
  4. Repeat for your range

You can now share a product directly in a chat instead of describing it from scratch.

Step 3: Build an opt-in audience

This is the step that separates marketing from spam. Only message people who agreed to hear from you. Here's how to grow that list legitimately:

The golden rule: the customer initiates or explicitly opts in. That keeps you compliant with WhatsApp's Business Policy and keeps your number safe.

Step 4: Use broadcast lists only for opted-in contacts

For sending an update to many opted-in contacts at once, use Broadcast Lists (not by adding strangers — only people who opted in and have your number saved).

  1. In WhatsApp, tap ⋮ → New broadcast (or Broadcast Lists)
  2. Select the opted-in contacts
  3. Compose your message and send

Each recipient gets it as an individual message, not a group. Important: recipients only receive a broadcast if they have your number saved in their contacts — another reason opt-in matters.

Step 5: Write a message worth opening

Whatever you send, follow these principles:

Example (good): "Hi Dana! You mentioned you wanted a Saturday slot — we just had one open up this Saturday at 2pm. Want me to hold it for you?"
Example (bad — don't do this): "🔥🔥 MEGA SALE 50% OFF EVERYTHING TODAY ONLY CLICK NOW 🔥🔥" sent to 500 people who never opted in.

Step 6: Be ready when people reply

A broadcast is only the start. When someone answers, continue the conversation while their question is still current.

A few ways to keep response times low:

Step 7: Measure the conversation, not the send

Track the basics so you know what's working:

If a broadcast gets lots of opt-outs or no replies, your message or frequency is off. Adjust and test.

Keep permission visible

WhatsApp actively bans numbers that spam. Protect yours:

Start with the free tools: a complete profile, a useful catalog, an away message and broadcasts only to people who opted in. Add automation when the follow-up work becomes too much to maintain by hand.
